Acer Aspire One - lsass - not enough system resources

    Guys,

I'm looking at a freinds daughter's netbook, the acer aspire one. it's the 8gb SSD version and so is incredibly poor for storage. it has an expansion slot for sd/sdhc card to increase this but they've not done it. as such after a windows update it has filled the drive so much that it cannot even load windows fully...

i only ever do a reinstall of windows if it is absolutely necessary and a last resort, preferring to actually sort problems out instead of wiping and starting again.

my initial plan was to remove the drive, connect to my pc and remove a bunch of files (photo, video etc) to free up enough space to get it running. however, after taking the whole thing apart it turns out my assumptions that it would be a sata connection to the mainboard were wrong...

the netbook has an expansion slot but sticking in a 4gb sdhc card does nothing - i presume that it needs windows to load fully to set up the extra storage?

as such, what are my options for getting access to the drive? i cannot boot into safemode (same error) and safemode with command prompt also fails...

is a reinstall (hopefully there's an installation partition! quick google says there should be) the only option?!

    thanks in advance...!

I though all the eeePC's had funny little PCI-e SSD's?

Can you do a disk cleanup wizard from safe mode (or from some sort of boot CD that get mentioned on here from time to time) to remove all the old system restore points and other assorted crap?

I'm not sure, I know the HD in my Aspire One is SATA...but that's obviously because its a normal 2.5" hard drive. I do remember reading something about a ZIF connector though.

It rings bells with me but i'm not sure when or what I read. All the SSD eee's I've seen in tech shop have been these funnything.

Not cheap when you look at the GB per £ ratio but not a bad deal at all in my book.

guys - cheers for your suggestions. got it sorted by creating a bootable ubuntu (linux) usb-stick and deleted a bunch of temp files that way. it now boots.

just need an sdhc memory card to stick in it and shift the my documetns folder over to that from the main hard drive.

the connection on the ssd it basically just a plain bit of 'ribbon' as opposed to a hard/plastic connection. can't believe they sell these things with 8gb drives...
