Hey guys,

Today my PC arrived, to my very delight. I instantly plugged it in and set it up to the monitor. I was extremely giddy and excited to FINALLY get my own, fast computer. However, when I plugged my PC into the monitor (BenQ G2222HDL - 22") it says 'no signal found. I am using D-Sub to connect from the computer to monitor at this point.

So, I frantically rummaged round for my old HDMI cable, and plugged it into the back of the PC and into my 37" tele. This option worked, so I thought the monitor maybe broke, or the connection maybe loose. Although after extensive testing, I have found nothing, and it still does not connect to the monitor. Although it does seem to recognise the D-Sub into the back, as when there is no cable plugged in whatsoever, it says 'no cable found.' Yet, as I said earlier, when inserting the D-Sub into the back, it says 'no SIGNAL found.' The thing is, that the monitor works perfectly with my old PC, through the same cable?

So, can anyone help me with my problem? I am happy to take questions and post my specs if that helps.

Thanks in advance,

Mike.

Right then, let's talk telly.

Anyone who's seen this thread will know I'm upgrading the HTPC for satellite viewing.

It's not going well, DVB-S as far as I can tell needs Win7 (well, S2 definitely does) and my current DVB-T won't run on Win7 - infact it what was causing the BSOD's from the previous post.

The KWorld DVB-S card isn't giving me any channels, I get a signal indicator for it (five blocks with one of the dishs cables, seven with the other - which is about on par with the signal check I get on the Sky+HD box, incidentally I have no idea how many blocks it's supposed to be out of but that's a Win7 Media Centre GUI design issue) but it's not finding any channels even though I'm selecting Eurobird 1 (Astra 2D) which I'm pretty sure is the right satellite and what worked on my old DVB-S2 card I had a while back.

So I'm writing both cards off as a headache and after DVB-T dual tuner and DVB-S dual tuner (bonus points for the former being cheap as T2 should be along shortly and the latter also supporting S2). Have two PCI slots and a PCI-E slot available so one of each or both PCI's not a problem. Case is slim so nothing that's bigger than a standard PCI bracket (though doesn't need to be low profile). Think that covers everything. Windows 7 supports essential.

Have looked at the Hauppauge 4400 as it has quad tuners but then read a review which says it doesn't support multi-tuner recording (ie you can only record the channel you're watching, not watch one and record another), but even at the £10 cheaper competitor I found them it's still £200 which is a bit long on the budget, especially when I should get similar functionality from:

Hauppauge PCTV 4000i Dual DVB-S
Hauppauge PCTV 2000i Dual DVB-T

Sans the DVB-S2 but for £155.46 before shopping around it's quite a saving and as far as I know the current HD channels (BBC, ITV and C4) are broadcasted on the S1 not S2 anyway.

Anyone with greater experience able to sort out me media centre? I figure with this boxed it's going to be one mean time sink :D

Hey guys,

After taking some advice I've decided not to buy the 275 GTX I talked about in my other recent thread and am instead thinking about either a 5750 or 5770. However, I'm not really sure which to go for. I suppose what I'm asking is: how much extra card does the extra £20 for a 5770 get me in comparison with the £5750.
Price wise there really isn't much in them. On paper the performace differences seem marginal but noticeable, with clock speeds differing by about 100MHz.
I think I'm leaning towards the 5770 at the moment as it seems to have a better balance of price and performance than the 5750, but I'm willing to accept advice from you guys. I should point out that I'm not too keen on spending more than £140/150 on a new card, so 58xx series and 59xx series are a bit beyond my budget, and similarly specced Nvidia cards seem to be a fair bit more in terms of price wise.
I have read on here and elsewhere that Ati drivers aren't so hot, but if I'm honest my current 8800 has driver errors which are apparently known about by Nvidia/Msoft but have yet to be fully resolved.
Thanks for input guys,

Jim

i have a 22" DGM monitor that i bought from CCL about 18 months ago..i think....
the last few days it's struggled to turn on, finally today giving up completely. As teh green signal light was coming on i assumed my GPU was the culprit, stripped down the PC, took out the card spotted one of the VRM heatsinks was extremely loose, cleaned it, took off the cooler, re-applied TIM and reassembled, then gave everything a good clean with my compressor. Popped it all back together, turned on the PC and...the same :(

Image pops onto the screen faintly for about a second then fades back to black.

I'm guessing this budget monitor won't have had a long warranty, so anyone got any suggestions to fix it very cheaply, or do i have to go shopping :(

currently using my caravan TV as a monitor, it might have a decent enough resolution but the colours are awful :( ....bright light........ :(

Quick question. Got the chance to purchase a second hand 275 GTX for ~£100.
I had a look and a new 5 series Ati card (the 57xx range specifically) cost something similar brand new. My question is, is it worth forking out for the 275 when I can get an unused, brand new card for a similar price. Is the 275GTX on par with a 57xx series card, or better, or worse? Basically would it be a smart purchase or would I be better off going for a newer card?
Thanks for advice,

I was using a HD4830 made by Sapphire before (dual slot), and I thought I needed a bit more power.

Martin.Day made a topic about selling a HD4850 yesterday, and I collected it today and installed it.

Here's the stock performance of my HD4830:

3DMark06: ~11150 @ Stock and ~12300 @ 650/1055Mhz

When the two cards were crossfired:

3DMark06: ~14500

I'm not so sure whether these are the expected gains, but I'm happy.

On another note, the HD4850 idles at 70C (WOW), while my Sapphire 4830 idles at 35C (often 31C).
